What is Necessary
Before attempting to install Oleg's firmware on your WL-HDD and configuring it, it is necessary to have the following:
1. A fully functional WL-HDD (obvious!)
2. The latest copy of Oleg's Firmware (WL-HDD build)
3. A fully functional PC.
Prerequisites
It is HIGHLY DESIRABLE that you are already familiar with linux before attempting this upgrade.
- Whilst there are some guides out there to be found, including this one, you will have to do a lot of work and some of the thinking yourself, especially if you want to customize the WL-HDD for you. This guide does however give your WL-HDD most of the basic features you could desire.
- If you do not already have linux, it may be good idea to download a distribution and practise running it first. I, personally, use Fedora Core 4.
- I also recommend that you download PuTTy. This client is available both for linux and for Windows. It will allow you to connect to your WL-HDD via telnet or later, via SSH. This will allow you to login to a shell on your WL-HDD.
- You must read the disclaimer
