General

The firmware comes as a single file with the extension TRX. If you downloaded the zip from Olegs site you may need to extract it first.

Pre Install

  • Download the firmware
  • Make sure you are doing the update on a wired connection. Never try an upgrade over wireless as this is very risky.

Downgrading

Should you want to downgrade the firmware to another custom build or to another Asus official firmware, you will need to use the firmware firmware restoration tool.

Method

  • Reboot the router or turn it off and on again. This free's up the memory in the router to ensure that the firmware image will fit in the flash.
  • Use the webinterface to upload the new firmware. Make sure you pick the right one.
  • Wait for the upgrade process to finish. If it takes more the 10 minutes then refresh your browser.
  • The firmware should now be updated.
If for any reason, it doesnt work, use the firmware restoration tool.

After Updating

  • Once you have updated the firmware, login again. The username for olegs firmware is admin and the password is blank. A common complaint from users is that they cannot login after upgrade. This is often because they are still trying their old password in the password box.
  • If this is successful, you then need to reset the router to factory defaults. Do this by holding the reset button on the back for 10 seconds while the router is running.
  • You now need to reconfigure the router through the web interface. Please note that the router will have reverted to its default ip address. Often, this is assigned by DHCP. Common addresses are 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.220. However, if none of these work, try using the WL-HDD discovery tool to find what the address of your WL-HDD is.
  • You will want to turn off FTP and configure the IP settings and the DHCP server according to your preferences.
  • If you later wish to run services such as Samba, it is very important that you set the hostname otherwise samba will not work.
  • Whatever you do, don't try and load an old configuration file onto the router. If the versions are different (which they obviously are) this could mess your router up.

Please post here with any relevant details.

After installing Oleg's firmware, user = BLANK, password = admin, not the other way around....
